8 Genius Laundry Tricks
Guaranteed to Make Your Life Easier
We all have to do it, but laundry day doesn’t have to be so bad.
Say Goodbye to the Sock Pile
NEVER LOSE A SOCK AGAIN
Put your socks in a lingerie or washing machine safe, mesh bag before throwing them in with the rest of your clothes. You won’t have to untangle them from your blankets or jeans afterward. Best of all, there will be no need for an extra socks pile in your laundry room. Who has space for that anyway?
Don’t Take a Mental Note
YOUR WASHING MACHINE HAS MULTIPLE USES
Use a dry erase marker to jot down notes, to-dos, and reminders on your machine lid. It works great for leaving a friendly reminder for your son to separate his lights from his darks, or for you to remember to add that shirt you’ve been meaning to wash to the next load.
No Crease, No Problem
WRINKLE FREE DRYING
Wedge a swim noodle over a hanger (trust us). You can cut a slit through it for simplicity. Then hang your clothes that can’t machine dry over the noodle. Your jeans will look like they were professionally pressed once you’re done with them.
PRE-TREAT STAINS WITH CHALK
The worst part of indulging in a greasy burger may be the inevitable grease stains to follow. Let us remember what our mother’s taught us and do not set the stain. Rub some chalk on the stain before putting the clothing in to dry. It actually absorbs most of the grease!
RESTORE YOUR FAVORITE JEANS
A problem facing many tall Americans, accidentally shrinking your pants cannot be good for a budget. However, washing the item of clothing in water with baby shampoo and rolling the clothing out afterwards can actually undo the shrinking that took place.
DON’T LET DRYER SHEETS FOIL YOUR PLANS
As shocking as it may seem, aluminum foil can actually be bundled up and used as a dryer sheet. Great for rushed loads when you just got back from the store and can’t stand the idea of going back in the same day (we’ve been there).
A “Fast Dry” Setting
NO TIME, NO WORRY
If you throw in a dry towel in the first 15-20 minutes of your wet clothes drying, it cuts the whole process time in half.
A PERSONAL FAVORITE
For your Sunday best or lunch with grandma, showing up in a wrinkled outfit is not ideal. You may not have time to iron, especially if you found your favorite shirt at the bottom of your closet. Put your clothing and a handful of ice cubs in the dryer for about 10 minutes. Leave some time for the clothes to air dry once you put them on, but this will significantly decrease the number of wrinkles visible to critical eyes.
